The cosmetic market is continually changing and replete with a multitude of filler products, each making bold claims about efficacy and duration. Dr. Swift is a world-renowned expert in "injectables", and sits on the medical advisory board of many of the leading pharmaceutical companies in Canada, the United States, and Europe. He often leads clinical trials on innovative new products and lectures at the main plastic surgery and dermatology conferences around the globe.
Dr. Swift will use his experience and expertise to carefully select only those products that are best suited for your unique situation. He is a pioneer of the comprehensive approach to combining fillers with other non-surgical treatments (like Botox Cosmetic® and skin treatments) to maximize each individual's beauty potential.
Intradermal injections of hyaluronic acid (a naturally occurring substance present in all living organisms) can fill in grooves, expression lines, wrinkles, irregularities and depressions. The most common areas for treatment are the lines around the nose and mouth, the frown lines between the eyebrows, and the lips, cheeks and chin for contouring and enhancement.
Hyaluronic acid is not animal derived, so unlike collagen it requires no pre-testing. However, since it is made from natural substances, it is unfortunately not permanent. Though some patients have reported results lasting up to two years, six to nine months is the norm.
More recently, the addition of a mild anesthetic in the hyaluronic acid formula has all but eliminated the pain associated with the injection process. Dr. Swift was the first to use this novel product in North America, and was invited to share his expertise and personal technique with the top injectors in the United States and Canada.
Hyaluronic acid injections are used on the face, anywhere that needs contouring or filling.
For example, Dr. Swift pioneered the "non-surgical" nose reshaping, by injecting hyaluronic acid to "straighten" the bridge of the nose.
Fillers can also be used to contour the chin, instead of an implant.
Most patients see results for 6-12 months. This varies greatly from one patient to the next, depending on which areas are being treated as well as individual factors ( weight loss, stress, metabolism)
Hyaluronic acid injections will not replace surgery in most cases, but it certainly can help a surgical result. Facelift patients for example will often find that even after surgery, they will have nasolabial folds present, this can be greatly improved with fillers. Fillers also help to smooth skin and fill in small lines that surgery does not always address.
